MUP and the University of Melbourne
MUP began life as an imprint run by the University of Melbourne all the way back in 1922. Since then MUP has taken on a life of its own, becoming an indepedent entity while still maintaining close ties with the university.
Numerous staff, students and alums of the university have published books with MUP including Glyn Davis, Damon Young, Peter Doherty, Rebe Taylor, Juliet Flesch, Joëlle Gergis, Stuart Mcintyre, among many others. Many academics from the university also contribute to our series of academic publications that are are peer reviewed and published into various academic communities.
As a nod to our history – and to make our backcatalogue as accessible as possible – MUP has recently been undergoing an extensive and ongoing project to bring various old titles back into circulation. Recent titles that have been brought back include H.M. Bark Endeavour, Hartung's Astronomical Objects For Southern Telescopes and The Last Shilling: A History of Repatriation in Australia.
University of Melbourne staff, students and alumni are eligible for a 25% discount on MUP books (excluding ebooks).
