When Galaxies Collide: Keynote Presentation by Dr Lisa Harvey-Smith at Sydney Science Festival 2018
Lisa Harvey-Smith presenting at Sydney Science Festival 2018
In this lively and engaging talk, Lisa Harvey-Smith describes how a future collision between our own galaxy, the Milky Way, and its nearest neighbour will bring dramatic changes to our night sky – including radiant bursts of star formation, coalescence of supermassive black holes and the ignition of dragon-like jets of gas that tear through space at almost the speed of light. But don’t worry – it’s not going to happen for at least 3.8 billion years!
Professor Lisa Harvey-Smith is a multi-award winning astronomer, science communicator and television presenter best known for ABC’s popular science series Stargazing Live. Lisa is a master at presenting complex subject-matter in a relaxed and humorous way. This talk is suitable for all ages.
