Geoffrey Blainey

In 2000 Professor Blainey received Australia's highest honour, the Companion of the Order of Australia. He taught at the University of Melbourne for many years, and chaired the Australia Council from 1977 to 1981. He has written over forty books, including A Short History of the World, The Tyranny of Distance, The Triumph of the Nomads and The Peaks of Lyell.
